Residents of Michigan’s Thumb region now have local access to comprehensive orthopedic care with the addition of Dr. Colleen Linehan, M.D., orthopedic surgeon, to McLaren’s orthopedic surgery team.
Dr. Linehan specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. She provides both nonoperative and surgical treatment for a wide range of orthopedic conditions, including arthritis, sports injuries, fractures, tendon injuries, hand and wrist disorders, shoulder conditions, knee pain, hip pain, and other musculoskeletal problems.
Many people assume that joint pain or loss of mobility is simply a normal part of aging. In reality, persistent pain, stiffness, weakness, swelling, or declining function often indicates an underlying orthopedic condition that can be effectively treated.
“My goal is to help patients return to the activities that are important to them,” said Dr. Linehan. “Whether that means getting back to work, enjoying time with family, participating in sports, or simply living without daily pain, we begin by identifying the source of the problem and developing an individualized treatment plan.”
Although orthopedic surgeons perform surgery when appropriate, surgery is not always the first step. Dr. Linehan emphasizes evidence-based, patient-centered care and offers a full spectrum of treatment options. Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may include activity modification, physical therapy, medications, injections, or surgery when it provides the best opportunity for long-term pain relief and improved function.
Patients should consider an orthopedic evaluation if they experience persistent joint or muscle pain, limited range of motion, instability, weakness, difficulty walking or climbing stairs, injuries that fail to improve, or symptoms that interfere with work, recreation, or everyday activities.
The addition of orthopedic surgery services expands access to specialty care throughout Michigan’s Thumb region, allowing patients to receive expert evaluation and treatment closer to home while benefiting from the resources of McLaren.
Whether recovering from an injury, managing arthritis, or considering joint replacement or other orthopedic procedures, patients can receive comprehensive care from diagnosis through recovery without leaving the region.
