Educational Child Care Center to $5,000 in grants from Michigan Health Plans

The Michigan Association of Health Plans (MAHP) and one of its members, Health Alliance Plan (HAP), will award the Educational Child Care Center (EC3) $5,000 to support tuition assistance for low-income families and healthy living curriculum initiatives.

EC3 is a nonprofit parent cooperative early childhood education center based in mid-Michigan. It has provided services to the greater Lansing community for nearly four decades. According to Christina Wood, Executive Director of EC3, “this grant will help us make child care more affordable and assist us in prioritizing health- focused activities such as nutrition education, physical activity, and social-emotional learning into the daily curriculum.”

The Michigan Association of Health Plans (MAHP) is making $2,500 available through its Tackling Health Care Disparities grant program. This program encourages community-based organizations to collaborate and deploy local initiatives that help address disparities for healthy living. “Our ten health plan members are pleased to support this valuable community non-profit organization,” said Dominick Pallone, MAHP’s executive director.

Health Alliance Plan (HAP), a Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurer providing and offering health insurance to mid-Michigan residents, will contribute $2,500 to EC3. “By supporting early childhood development, our contribution will help reduce inequities in school readiness, promote lifelong health, and strengthen family stability—addressing multiple social determinants of health at once,” said Archana Rajendra, from Health Alliance Plan.

“I’ve seen firsthand how much EC3 means to families and how much of an anchor it is in our community. These grants represent a meaningful investment in healthy learning and ensuring every child has access to the care and support they deserve. I’m grateful for this partnership and proud that we’re prioritizing what truly matters: our kids,” stated State Senator Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing).

Representatives from MAHP will present their contribution at the EC3 (1715 West Malcolm X Street, Lansing, MI 48915) at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 20th. Representatives from MAHP, HAP, as well as State Senator Sarah Anthony will be present for the check presentation ceremony
