Local Detroit Church to receive $2,500 grant to help address social determinants of health

Detroit, Mich. – The City of Jesus House of Life Apostolic Church of Detroit will receive a $2,500 grant from the Michigan Association of Health Plans (MAHP) to help address social determinants of health, such as homelessness, food, transportation, and housing needs, in its local community.

“It is our mission to provide emergency shelter, transportation, and housing as needed to the disenfranchised in and around our community,” said Bishop James C. Mack, Jr. “From providing hot meals every Sunday for the community to helping individuals overcome impediments to healthy living by providing food, shelter and transportation, this grant will allow us to advance our giving.

The Michigan Association of Health Plans (MAHP) first learned about the valuable community outreach efforts provided by the City of Jesus House of Life Apostolic Church through Representative Karen Whitsett. “Our eleven health plan members are pleased to support and encourage the continued selfless work this community-based Church is taking to improve health outcomes,” said Dominick Pallone, MAHP’s executive
director.

The Michigan Association of Health Plans (MAHP) is making $2,500 available through its Tackling Health Care Disparities grant program. This program encourages community-based organizations to collaborate and deploy local initiatives to create better health outcomes and improve health equity.

This local Detroit community-based Church is a place where people can turn and be connected with helpful resources. I am honored to connect an association from Lansing that is looking to recognize and help continue the valuable services local faith-based organizations like this are taking to address health care disparities in their communities,” said State Representative Karen Whitsett (D-Detroit).

Representatives from MAHP will present their contributions at The City of Jesus House of Life Apostolic Church (17142 Rowe Street, Detroit, MI 48205) this Sunday at 12:45 P.M. Representative Karen Whitsett will also attend and speak briefly about the valuable services provided at the Church.
